It’s a fresh new year, and we’re all looking for ways to make the most out of every day. When January hits, I always feel ready to hit the refresh button and amp up my mornings with a breakfast that energizes and provides healthy fuel for a busy morning.
Green smoothies are a great way to get going. They’re packed with fiber and nutrition, and the KitchenAid® Torrent™ Blender makes it all happen with just the touch of a button.
I like to sweeten my smoothies with dates. They’re all-natural and unrefined, plus they’re full of vitamins and minerals. A small handful of oats also provides fiber and bulk, so this smoothie will keep you feeling full all morning long. Start by soaking the dates and oats in cold water for a few minutes, to soften them. This way they blend in really smoothly and leave no chalky or gritty texture.
Once the dates and oats have softened, add plain Greek yogurt for protein and a creamy texture, greens (such as spinach or kale), a fresh orange, frozen mango chunks, and frozen pineapple chunks. I love to use tropical fruits at this time of year. They’re just bursting with sunny flavor and they’re so cheerful!
I also like to add a little fresh ginger to my green smoothies. It’s such a remarkable flavor and it’s really great for digestion.
The Torrent™ Blender is programmed with all sorts of preset blending cycles to make your life easy. You can use the “Pulse” feature to make chunkier dips or salsas, the “Soups” setting for fresh blended soups, plus many more options. For this recipe, turn the dial to “Icy Drinks/Smoothies,” and press start.
You can hear the Torrent™ Blender changing its speed and direction as it completes the cycle. This preset is optimized for the best possible smoothie.
The base of the blender is built to last. It’s solid and quite heavy. You won’t find this blender shimmying around on your counter. And I really love how all the mechanics are housed within the magnetic drive. There are no moving parts to catch on. It’s perfectly sleek, and easy to keep clean.
Pour the green smoothie mixture into shallow bowls and garnish with slices of orange, pineapple, chia seeds, and shredded coconut. The garnishes look beautiful and give a great texture, sweetness, and crunch.

Tropical Green Smoothie Bowl
Makes 2 servings
For the green smoothie
4 ounces cold water
3 pitted dates
2 tablespoons rolled oats
1/4 cup (55 grams) plain Greek yogurt
1 cup (20 grams) greens such as kale or spinach
1 fresh clementine orange, peeled
1 cup (130 grams) frozen mango chunks
1 cup (115 grams) frozen pineapple chunks
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
For the garnishes
About 10 thin slices of fresh pineapple
Two fresh oranges, sliced
1 tablespoon shredded coconut
1 teaspoon chia seeds
Place the water, dates, and oats in the pitcher of the KitchenAid® Torrent™ Blender, and allow to soak for 15-20 minutes.
Then add the Greek yogurt, greens, orange, frozen mango, frozen pineapple, and ginger. Place the lid on the pitcher and click the pitcher into the base. Turn the dial to the “Icy Drinks/Smoothies” setting, and press the start button to begin the preset blending cycle.
Once the blender has completed the cycle and stopped blending, pour the mixture into a shallow bowl and top with garnishes.
