Stylish Taco Spread

Stylish Salsa Spread

Just because we’re easing into a new season doesn’t mean we have to give up entertaining with a summer state of mind! That’s why we are throwing a taco party with a drool-worthy salsa bar with an array of condiments that are as stylish as they are satisfying.

To make a statement, you need to prepare lots of options, but tackling multiple recipes pre-party does not have to be a daunting experience. Especially when using the KitchenAid® Food Processor which blends, chops and shreds everything you’ll need to perfection. Not to mention it is a breeze to clean and saves you from using every dish in your cupboard to prepare!

One of my favorite recipes to include in a salsa spread is a cabbage and radish slaw with cumin lime vinaigrette. It’s bright in flavor and color, making it a perfect go-to recipe that works both as any kind of taco topping, but also perfect to serve as a main dish topped with your favorite grilled protein.

Now that you have a recipe game plan – your salsa bar presentation deserves to shine too! So I’ve pulled together 5 easy tips to get you ready to salsa dance out of your kitchen and into chic taco time in a flash.

Stylish Salsa Spread: Cabbage Radish Slaw With Cumin Lime Vinaigrette

#1: Create A Self-Serve Station That Feels Special

Give your gorgeous fixings the center stage attention they deserve by pulling together a stylish spread on the end of a dining table. By providing three sides of access, guests will be able to easily top their tacos without causing a traffic jam.

Not willing to give up seating space? Try creating your condiment masterpiece on top of a credenza, kitchen island or short bookshelf alongside some refreshing drinks. By having a designated area, guests can serve themselves as they wish and you won’t have to stress about running around any more than you have to.

#2: Experiment With Different Textures And Finishes

I love nothing more than an eclectic table packed with texture and sheen. Keep the kitsch decor for the themed restaurant and elevate your party with some unexpected seasonal style. The key to keeping things looking pulled together and not overly busy is to stay within a common color palette. Using a base of neutral tones is an easy way to go. Try pulling together different types of wood dishes alongside coordinating metallic touches, such as mix-matched brass serving wear. By creating a simple color story you have built the perfect base to start adding additional hues with bold textiles and florals.

#3: Mix And Match Your Textiles For A Pop Of Personality

Trendy linens don’t have to break the bank. Try shopping your local fabric store bargain bin for cheap (but fabulous) options that you won’t worry about dry cleaning the day after. I love to use a mixture of lightweight denim and linen to help tie in bolder prints such as ikat. As long as you weave a common color throughout your fabrics, mix and matching different patterns or textures will look elegant and not confused.

#4: Play With Height For A More Curated Look

The key to making a stylish condiment bar is to think outside of typical linear layouts – try building your dishes upwards using cake stands and wood boards of differing heights. This will give your spread a dynamic look and surprisingly take up less space.

Skip the traditional centerpiece and try creating loose arrangements of hearty flowers and botanicals flat on the table that can be bundled together with twine at the end of night and sent home with guests as a gift.

#5: Prep The Day Before

Taco condiments don’t stop at salsa!  Where pico de gallo and salsa verde are staples not to forget, try including other toppings such as quick pickled onions and red chilies (don’t forget spicy fruit salsas such as mango or pineapple) and definitely this fabulous red cabbage radish slaw with cumin lime vinaigrette!

By adding unique combinations of flavors that build well on top of each other, your spread will provide an extra punch of flavor that is as gorgeous as it is gourmet.

To make this recipe, prep your zucchini halves with olive oil, salt and pepper. Using a stovetop grilling pan, sear both sides of the squash until cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool before cutting into bite-sized pieces.

Using the Reversible Shredding Disc for your Food Processor, use the food pusher to carefully guide the radishes and carrots through the 2mm setting. Flip the shredding disc over to the 4mm setting and push through your red and green cabbage. Place the mixture into a large bowl and add chopped kale, black beans and zucchini.

Whisk together your lime, vinegar, cumin, mustard, olive oil, salt and pepper to create the vinaigrette. Toss with the slaw and like that, you have a deliciously easy and unique taco topper.

This recipe and these decorating tips can be done the night before, and this slaw actually tastes better the longer it sits in the fridge! This is a taco party after all, and you should be able to enjoy it. Once the door opens, focus on your guests and nothing else.
