Homemade Sodas

Homemade Soda

There’s nothing more refreshing than a cold, sparkling soda on a hot summer day. Luckily, we’re not serving the sugary sodas from a can — we’re making our own! It’s so easy to make a fresh, homemade soda sweetened to your preference with organic syrups. And the best part is that you can get the most refreshing carbonated water using the KitchenAid® Sparkling Beverage Maker, so no more flat sodas. You can also control how much carbonation you want.

To make these delicious sodas, we used fun old-fashioned soda bottles, the Sparkling Beverage Maker and our homemade syrups.

To make the carbonated water, fill the bottle that comes with the Sparkling Beverage Maker with cold water up to the level mark, about 8 ounces. Make sure the handle is lifted, and insert the bottle by sliding it against the lever. The white tip should be inside the bottle. Carbonate the liquid by pressing the handle on the Sparkling Beverage Maker up and down repeatedly in a few short bursts.

To make the syrups for your soda, bring water and sugar to a simmer in a saucepan until the sugar is completely melted. Turn the heat to low and add in your fruit. Then, let it simmer for about 5 minutes until soft, but not overcooked. Add the mixture to a food processor or blender and puree until smooth.

Using a mesh strainer, strain the mixture into a jar. You might need to do this a few times, as the mixture will be thick and you will want to get as much syrup out as you can. This also helps to keep your final beverage smooth!

Using a funnel, pour the water into the soda bottles.

Then, add in your desired amount of syrups (about 1-2 ounces per 8 ounces of water).

Remove the funnel and add a garnish, like some extra fruit or herbs.

The blueberries and rosemary look so pretty in the soda bottle, and the rosemary gives it a nice, subtle rosemary essence.

It’s super easy to create your own homemade sodas. Just have fun with it and be creative with your own flavor combos – Cheers!

3 cups organic cane sugar
2 cups fresh organic blackberries, plus garnish
2 cups fresh pineapple chunks, plus garnish
Rosemary, for garnish

DIRECTIONS

To make a Blackberry soda syrup, bring 1 1/2 cups of water and 1 1/2 cups of sugar to a simmer until the sugar is completely melted. Turn the heat to low, then add in the blackberries. Let them simmer for about 5 minutes until soft, but not overcooked. Add the mixture into a food processor or blender and puree until smooth. Using a mesh strainer, strain the mixture into a jar. You might need to do this a few times as the mixture will be thick and you want to get as much syrup out as you can!

To make a Pineapple soda syrup, repeat the steps outlined above, substituting the blackberries for your pineapple chunks.

To make the carbonated water base for your soda, fill the bottle that comes with the KitchenAid® Sparkling Beverage Maker with cold water up to the level mark, about 8 ounces. Make sure the handle is lifted and insert the bottle by sliding it against the lever. The white tip should be inside the bottle. Carbonate the liquid by pressing the handle on the Sparkling Beverage Maker up and down repeatedly in a few short bursts. Using a funnel, pour the carbonated water into a glass or decorative glass bottle.

Finish your soda by adding in your desired amount of syrups (about 1-2 ounces per 8 ounces of water), and then remove the funnel and add a garnish, like some extra fruit or herbs.
