I love produce. Fruits and vegetables are a main staple in my diet. Growing up, my mother fed us lots of fruit and all different kinds of vegetables and I wholeheartedly believe this is why I love vegetables so much.
I’m a firm believer that if you keep a well-stocked pantry and refrigerator, you will always have ingredients on hand to be able to whip up dinner. This is why I keep my pantry and refrigerator stocked and full. There’s nothing worse than looking around your kitchen and into an empty refrigerator wondering what you are going to make for dinner.
The only thing that could be worse is looking into your refrigerator to see once-fresh produce has gone bad. I’ll admit I had this problem with my old refrigerator. It couldn’t keep up with all of the fresh produce I was storing. Getting a new refrigerator was key, so when we renovated our kitchen earlier this year, we knew we had to go with this KitchenAid® French Door Refrigerator. I’ve had this new Refrigerator for over 8 months now and I’m still in love.
This Refrigerator has the Preserva® Food Care System. The system uses two independent cooling systems to create a dedicated refrigeration unit that helps keep food fresh longer, and a separate freezer environment for frozen foods.
My freezer has never had less freezer burn and we absolutely love the 3-Tier Freezer Drawer with Storage Divider.
With this freezer, I can organize frozen items on three different levels, making them easier to access, and it includes a storage divider in the lower basket to help keep smaller items organized. My kids love that they can open and close the freezer drawer easily.
The FreshFlow™ Air Filter (an ethylene-absorption cartridge) helps minimize odors while the FreshFlow™ Produce Preserver helps delay over-ripening. This is the best! And it’s not just my produce that stays fresh. It’s everything: my cheeses, deli meats and bread too. Everything that goes inside stays fresher for longer.
And I love the design of this Refrigerator, both the interior and exterior.
The platinum interior is an industry-exclusive and the metallic accents add a touch of elegance. Additionally, the undershelf LED lighting makes it easy to find items no matter where they’re hidden.
Once of my favorite summer vegetables is kale, and with the Preserva® Food Care System, the leaves stay fresh, crunchy and delicious. This crunchy kale salad is currently our favorite salad to munch on. Start by making a quick and easy mustard shallot dressing. Add shallots, vinegar, Dijon mustard and honey to a mason jar and shake together until ingredients are combined. Then add salt and pepper to the jar and shake once more. Finally, slowly whisk in olive oil until smooth and emulsified. Set aside until you’re ready to toss with the greens.
To assemble the salad, place shredded kale into a large mixing bowl and sprinkle a little kosher salt over top. Squeeze the kale, massaging it with salt for about 2 to 3 minutes. Massaging the kale leaves breaks down the toughness and makes them less bitter to taste.
Mix in the shredded red cabbage and the chopped apples and mix together once more with your hands.
Top with the dried cranberries and sliced almonds, then toss the salad with the dressing.
This salad is so easy to make and a great way to get kids in the kitchen by letting them play with their food! I would love to see what massaged kale salad recipes you whip up in your kitchen.
