Cold Brew Chai

Cold Brew Chai Recipe

Summer has arrived. Do you know what that means? It’s iced tea season. And you guys… It’s National Iced Tea Day! To celebrate, how about a little Cold Brew Chai? Cold brew coffee is all the rage, but we are switching things up today with some cold brew tea. What do you say, shall we get started?

For those of you who don’t know much about chai, here is a little lesson. Chai usually refers to masala chai, which is a flavored tea beverage usually made by brewing black tea with a mixture of aromatic Indian spices and herbs. It originated in India, but it’s gained worldwide popularity and is now featured in many coffee and tea houses.

Today we are putting a little twist on a traditional chai and we are making Cold Brew Chai. Cold brew Chai is super easy to make in the KitchenAid® Cold Brew Coffee Maker, which I love by the way.

It’s one of my favorite appliances because it doesn’t take up a lot of space in my refrigerator, but it also makes a ton of servings. It’s designed to make coffee or tea concentrate. The Cold Brew Coffee Maker brews up to 28 ounces of concentrate, which is about 14 servings. Can I get a round of applause for that?

To begin making the Cold Brew Chai, gather your supplies, including the Cold Brew Coffee Maker, loose leaf chai, water, and anything you would like to add to your tea: cream, milk, simple syrup, etc.

Cold Brew Chai Recipe

Follow the directions to put the Cold Brew Coffee Maker together just like you would for brewing coffee. Add 4 ounces or 1/2 cup of loose leaf chai, such as masala chai, to the steeper.

Using a circular motion, pour 42 ounces or 5 1/4 cups of water over the chai.

Place the Cold Brew Coffee Maker in the refrigerator and allow it to steep for four to twelve hours before serving. I recommend at least twelve hours. I usually just leave the Cold Brew Coffee Maker in the refrigerator overnight, and then I have something to look forward to for my 4:30 am wake up call.

The longer you let the tea steep before serving, the more robust the flavor will be. When you’re finished brewing, remove the steeper and allow the remaining liquid to drain into the brew jar. To serve, use one part tea concentrate to seven parts water. Adjust to your taste preferences.

I am a latte lover, so I like my Cold Brew Chai with a little cream or whole milk. Some simple syrup is a nice treat too. This makes a great beverage for a brunch or just hanging out poolside. It’s the perfect summer drink.
