Cocktails and Mocktails with Pear Puree

Pear Drinks Recipe

Fall is the perfect time to sit down with a delicious cocktail {or mocktail!} and enjoy the beauty of the season. Summer isn’t the only season with delectable fresh fruit.

I took a trip to the farmers market and picked up these beautiful pears. Once I saw how fresh they were I couldn’t turn them down. They were literally picked from the tree that very same day. I cut up my pears and added a few more ingredients to my KitchenAid® Food Processor. With one simple push of a button I was rewarded with a smooth puree in just under a minute.

So, what does one do with a big batch of fresh pear puree? I opted to make three different drinks that can easily go from mocktail to cocktail in one easy step.

Pear Puree

INGREDIENTS

2 Bartlett pears, peeled and cored

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons water

1 teaspoon lemon juice

DIRECTIONS

In your KitchenAid® Food Processor add pears, brown sugar, water and lemon juice, process until smooth.

Strain mixture and store in the refrigerator.

This simple drink combines pear puree with homemade thyme simple syrup. The thyme brings a nice herbaceous twist to the drink and just a touch of sweetness. We used champagne to bring the bubbles but feel free to use sparkling apple cider or even seltzer water if desired.

Sparkling Pear & Thyme Cocktail/Mocktail

Makes 1 drink

INGREDIENTS

For the thyme simple syrup

1 cup water

1 cup white sugar

6 sprigs fresh thyme

For the cocktail/mocktail

1 ounce pear puree

1-2 ounces thyme simple syrup

Champagne or sparkling apple cider

Fresh thyme (for garnish)

DIRECTIONS

For the thyme simple syrup

In a small saucepan add water, sugar and fresh thyme.

Let simmer over low heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture cooks down some and has a slight syrup consistency.

Strain out thyme and let the syrup cool. Store unused syrup in the refrigerator for up to a month.

For the cocktail/mocktail

In a champagne glass add pear puree and simple syrup. Top with champagne or sparkling apple cider.

Garnish with fresh thyme if desired.

Pear and vanilla are a perfect match. They are both homey fall flavors that when paired together taste like a crisp fall day. I used vanilla bean paste to make this drink but if you do not have any on hand you can simply use fresh vanilla bean instead. Feel free to omit the hard apple cider and replace with sparkling apple cider if you are partaking in mocktails only.

Margaritas aren’t just for lime, mango and strawberries. Fresh pear puree works beautifully in this frozen concoction and will be sure to surprise your guests. No one would ever be expecting such a lovely twist to a classic summer cocktail.
