The temperature outside is beginning to cool a bit, and the kids have started a new school year. We’re on the cusp of fall, and with that we turn our thoughts to baking with warm spices and orchard fruits. There’s nothing more comforting than a sweet and warm dessert, baking away in the oven. These Cinnamon Pear Dumplings will satisfy all your fall yearnings.
Begin with the syrup-y sauce that the dumplings will be braised in. It comes together easily in my favorite heavy-bottomed 1.5-Quart Saucepan from my KitchenAid® Stainless Steel 10 Piece Set. You’ll love how evenly this 1.5-Quart Saucepan disperses the heat.
Just add a little water, cinnamon, and butter to the granulated sugar and cook over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, or until all the sugar has dissolved and the mixture has thickened slightly. The cooktop on my KitchenAid® Gas Convection Slide-In Range has the ability to heat between 5,000 to 19,000 BTU, perfect for melting chocolate and searing meats.
Remove the sauce from the heat and allow it to cool while you get started on the dough.
Start by combining the flour, baking powder, and salt in the bowl of your KitchenAid® Pro Line® Series 16-Cup Food Processor. This is the largest capacity Food Processor in the KitchenAid line and it’s perfect for making pastry doughs like this one. Pulse it a few times to combine the dry ingredients, then add the butter.
Process the butter with the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Then, drizzle in the milk.
Stop adding milk just as soon as the dough gathers itself into a ball.
Divide the dough into six equal portions and roll each out to a thickness of about 1/8″. Fill the cavity of your peeled and cored pears with some soft butter, and place in the center of the dough. Sprinkle with sugar and a pinch of cinnamon.
Gather the pastry up and around the sides of the pear, pressing and forming it around the shape of the fruit. You can even shape a little stem and leaf with leftover dough scraps!
Place the dumplings in a baking dish. I love the second to largest Casserole Dish in my KitchenAid® Ceramic 4-Piece Nesting Casserole Set– it’s just the right size for six pear dumplings, plus it can go from the oven straight to the table. Spoon the cooled sauce over the dumplings, allowing it to glaze the pastry and pool in the bottom of the Casserole Dish.

Cinnamon Pear Dumplings
Makes 6 servings
For the sauce
1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar
1/2 cup (118 grams) water
2 tablespoons (28 grams) unsalted butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the pastry
2 cups (260 grams) all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
10 tablespoons (140 grams) cold unsalted butter
1/4 cup (56 grams) milk
For the filling
6 firm pears, peeled and cored
9 tablespoons (128 grams) unsalted butter, softened
3 teaspoons granulated sugar
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the sauce
Place the sugar, water, butter, and cinnamon in the 1.5-Quart Saucepan from my KitchenAid® Stainless Steel 10 Piece Set. Cook over medium-low heat on the cooktop on your KitchenAid® Gas Convection Slide-In Range for about 5 minutes, or until the sugar has dissolved and the sauce has thickened slightly. Set aside and allow to cool.
For the dumplings
Place the flour, baking powder, and salt in the bowl of the KitchenAid® Pro Line® Series 16-Cup Food Processor and pulse to combine. Add the butter and process until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Drizzle in the milk, while processing, until the dough gathers itself into a ball. Divide the dough equally into 6 portions. Roll out to a thickness of 1/8″.
Fill the cavity of the pear with soft butter. Place the pear in the center of the dough, and sprinkle with about a half teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of cinnamon. Gather the dough up and around the sides of the pear, pressing and molding it to the shape of the fruit. Form a stem and leaf from dough scraps.
Place the dumplings in the second to largest Casserole Dish in the KitchenAid® Ceramic 4-Piece Nesting Casserole Set. Cover with the reserved sauce, and bake for 35 minutes at 375°F. Cool slightly; serve warm.
