Puff Pastry Waffles with Whipped Cream

Puff Pastry Waffles with Whipped Cream

Are you ready to kick up a classic breakfast carb? Then bypass the batter and nix the mixing in favor of quick and easy Puff Pastry Waffles topped off with homemade whipped cream and the season’s freshest berries. Best of all, the KitchenAid® Waffle Baker guarantees this buttery indulgence will be on your table in 10 minutes or less.

Puff Pastry Waffles with Whipped Cream

These puff pastry waffles, which resemble a deconstructed breakfast edition of the traditional Napoleon dessert, couldn’t be faster or easier to prepare. Begin by cutting store-bought sheets of puff pastry into circles so that they fit perfectly inside the Waffle Baker.

The non-stick coating, plus a quick spritz of cooking spray, guarantees the pastry won’t stick as it bakes. And the double-sided Waffle Baker provides ample space to bake up two puff pastry waffles at the same time.

With the pastry in place, close the preheated Waffle Baker and bake the pastry for about 8 minutes, or until it’s golden brown and cooked throughout.

While the waffles bake, prepare the homemade whipped cream by whisking together chilled heavy cream, sour cream (for added tang and shine!), sugar and vanilla extract in the KitchenAid® Stand Mixer. Stiff peaks will begin to form after mixing for just a few minutes on medium-high speed.

Then all that’s left to do is top each waffle with the whipped cream and a spoonful of fresh fruit (think raspberries, strawberries, kiwi or other juicy favorites). And don’t hesitate to get creative when it comes to additional toppings. A slathering of Nutella, fruit jam or even peanut butter would be welcome additions atop these buttery waffle stacks.

Makes 2 7-inch waffles

INGREDIENTS

For the waffles

1 (17.3-ounce) package frozen puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
Fresh fruit, for serving

For the whipped cream

1 cup chilled heavy cream
1/4 cup sour cream
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS

For the waffles

Preheat the KitchenAid® Waffle Baker.

Unfold the two sheets of puff pastry onto a lightly floured work surface. Using a rolling pin, lightly roll out each sheet of puff pastry to seal together any perforations in the dough, and then use a sharp knife or pizza wheel to cut each pastry sheet into a 7-inch circle so it fits inside the Waffle Baker. (Scraps can be re-frozen or baked as needed.)

Lightly grease the Waffle Baker with cooking spray then place one of the puff pastry circles into the center. Close the lid and bake the puff pastry for about 8 minutes until it’s golden brown and cooked throughout. (Cook the second puff pastry circle in the opposite side of the Waffle Baker.) While the waffles are baking, make the whipped cream.

For the whipped cream

In the bowl of a KitchenAid® Stand Mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, whip together the heavy cream, sour cream, sugar and vanilla extract on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form.

Top the waffles with the whipped cream and a spoonful of fruit. Serve immediately.
